Philosophy

A passionate advocate for natural health and healing, Ben believes that life is meant to be lived to the fullest. His signature “Spiritual Gangster” approach to wellness incorporates his extensive study and practice of Tai chi and Qi gong, integrated massage therapy, energy work and nutrition to support overall health and well being of  and assist others in living their best lives.

Biography

Born in Hawaii and raised near the beach in San Diego, California, Ben grew up surfing in the Pacific Ocean and spending time immersed in nature. A near-death experience at the age of 11 gave him powerful insights into the nature of existence and initiated him onto a path of finding his purpose. His love of the out of doors led him to work as commercial fisherman in Kodak, Alaska, crewing aboard the the FV Eskimo Princess for three years. The work proved impactful; however, he developed Carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis. When medical doctors recommended surgery and Cortisone injections, Ben sought out alternative treatments and found relief through acupuncture and herbal treatments. Realizing anew the wisdom the body contained to heal itself, he went on to attend bodywork at The American Institute of Massage Therapy in 1987. His studies with Nancy Burr, a blind instructor and early mentor at AIMT, reinforced Ben’s belief in the transformative power of healing touch.  Concurrently, he practiced Tai chi with Dr. Roger Jahnke, O.MD, and Dr. Paul lam, and Qi gong under the tutelage of Master Li Junfeng-Sheng Zhen.

A board-certified Tai chi instructor for arthritis with three decades of training and practice of bodywork modalities including acupressure, Reiki, myofascial release, nutrition, reflexology, chakra balancing, and visioning, Ben specializing in sports, auto and personal injury care, stress reduction, relief from TMJ and migraines to help others achieve optimal wellness. 

He currently maintains a private massage and bodywork practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, lectures about radical self care and leads corporate wellness programs for John Muir Health, where he collaborates with medical doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists to combine Eastern and Western approaches to health.
